Working together, we are fighting for:

Strong & Safe Neighborhoods • Better Services for Our Tax $ • Economic Prosperity

Strong & Safe Neighborhoods

The blocks we live on are the cornerstones of our city. Alderman Nik Kovac communicates every day with block clubs, neighborhood associations, and our District 1 & 5 police officers to stop and solve crimes. He is also leading efforts to assist police with trauma specialists, conflict mediators, building inspectors, educators, and employers to prevent the root causes of violence.

Go to Better Services for Our Tax $

Better Services for Our Tax $

In Milwaukee, we expect value for every dollar. As Chairman of the Finance & Personnel Committee, Alderman Nik Kovac makes sure that in return for paying our taxes, we get our garbage cans emptied, our potholes filled, our libraries open, and our crime cases closed.

Go to Economic Prosperity

Economic Prosperity

As your alderman, Nik Kovac has brought the public into every zoning and licensing decision. With your guidance, we have seen buildings rise and businesses open on our main streets. These developments will stand the test of time. And they can inspire sustainable social and economic prosperity throughout every corner of this great city.

Alderman Kovac represents us at City Hall, serving on the Finance, Zoning, and Licensing committees.

Those three committees make important decisions on all of our blocks - how to fund our city services, what kind of new buildings to allow, and which bars and restaurants which operate in our neighborhoods.

Nik is also involved in our community in many other ways:

ARTS & CULTURE

Alderman Kovac is the Vice Chair of the Milwaukee Arts Board, an organization that proudly supports dozens of arts groups in our great city, as well as funding important pieces of outdoor public art, like the Ray Chi sculptures outside the new East Library on North Avenue. He has also been the honorary starter of the Great Downer Avenue Bike Race, has participated every year in the Riverwest 24 Bike Ride, has helped judged artist contests for the Friends of Blue Dress Park, was on the selection panel for the artist performances this past summery on the ARTery trail, and is a member of the Milwaukee Film Festival. If you like to go out for Gallery Night, you’ll probably see him there.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION & GREAT ARCHITECTURE

Nik Kovac is a proud to have grown up in the North Point Historic District, inside a house that his parents still live in. From the commercial buildings on Brady Street and Downer Avenue, to the great historic houses and apartments buildings along our lakeshore, there are many great places to preserve in the 3rd District. As a former board member of Historic Milwaukee, Inc., and as a regular tour guide for the popular Doors Open Milwaukee event, Alderman Kovac understands the importance of keeping the great things we have. He also knows that we need to build things today that will be worthy of preservation in the future. He created and now chairs the East Side Architectural Review Board, a group that approves all new signage and buildings along our important North Avenue corridor. The Standard at East Library, the Overlook On Prospect atop the old mall, and the Edge on North at the site of the old Pizza Man were all built under these new guidelines. Those buildings – and all those that come after them – will stand the test of time.

LIBRARIES & LITERACY

Alderman Kovac is on the Library Board for city of Milwaukee as well as the Federated Library Board for the entire county system. He loves books, but understands that our public libraries are much more than just the volumes on the shelves. They are places for the community to gather, for adults to get access to digital resources, and for children to begin developing a lifelong love of learning. They are a third place – somewhere that is neither home nor work – and are uniquely able to help build community and inspire education. Alderman Kovac advocates for these services, and makes sure they get funded by the city. He has sponsored many budget amendments that have expanded the hours for our libraries and the literacy programs we provide for children.
